the kitchen
The kitchen at Brickman House is notable for two reasons: first, it is the oldest part of the house, as it was the structure Harding and Mary Brickman first built back around 1840. Second, it's the ugliest room in the house:
It truly is a marvel of 1970's faux Mediterranean decorating, with dark cabinets, dark trim, dark carpet, and a dropped ceiling trimmed out with, you guessed it, dark molding.
No changes to this room yet, unless you count tearing out half the dropped ceiling to find and fix the leaks in the plumbing of the bathrooms above. We can dream, though, right? We obviously have quite the library of renovation and design books, and we found photos of this kitchen, which is the closest we've ever come to looking at a design and wanting to take it and drop it, lock stock and barrel unchanged, into our house. Take a look:
Isn't that gorgeous?
So stay tuned for that kitchen, Brickman House style, soon. Not soon enough for us, but hey, we've got some other projects we've got to finish first, like the studio and the family room, and then when the weather gets warmer, the pool and the exterior of the house. All in good time, right?
